Don't let the slouching, weathered leather look fool you, this is a hand-built work of ceramic! Designed and executed by Al Pellenberg, this object is a wonderfully striking countertop addition, and bonus points for having a secondary intended use as a baking dish! The primary material used is Brooklyn Red Stoneware mined in the clay pits on Long Island adjacent to the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. The clay from this area is still used in brick making for building in the NYC metro area. Gloss midnight black glaze on the interior, and raw with ribbed impressions on the exterior. Handcrafted in Richmond, VA. Food safe and dishwasher safe; oven safe to 500°F. Measures 11" x 7.5" x 4"
